The Stallion Source, Stallions available to breed! The Stallion Source, the place to find that PERFECT Stallion!

About

Every summer I receive a few requests from mare owners looking for a stallion. This last summer it was do you happen to know of an Arabian? Tennessee Walker? Saddlebred? Thoroughbred? Quarter Horse? Paint? The horse people I have helped where happy with the name and phone number. To often I was emailing or phoning around to gather the information. So after a bit of thought I decided to started a website.

The website started with a simple concept as a place for Alaskan Stallion owners to list their horses for stud. Then someone in mentioned they had a friend in Washington who would like to list their stud also, I thought if Alaska needed this type of site other states might benefit also. The site continues to grow with stallions from Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming coming on board. The list of states grows weekly so check back often.

Then before I knew it I had someone ask if I was going to include Canada, so a bit later I opened the site to Canadian listings and Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan quickly came on board. Know someone with a stallion in Canada and think they should be listed? Then let them know about the site.

Mare owners want to be able to find that perfect stallion they saw at an equine event, sometimes it was last week - sometimes it was years ago. Its nice to know when they are ready to bred there mare they can make a web stop at The Stallion Source and get the information they need to contact the owner of the stallion they have picked.

Some mare owners like to spend time looking at prospective stallions. Its a way to enjoy owning the horse they have and dream about the horse they would like to breed for. So it important to keep your horse listed as an available stud in your area.

For the website name ideas such as as find a stallion, locate a stallion, looking for a stallion, paint a stud, foals 4 ever, dreaming of foals, okay it was a bit of fun choosing the websites name.

Started wondering what stallion owners are looking for in a site? Would they like to post some basic information about their horse, location, email, phone, and a link to their website. A bonus would be a nice size photo of their outstanding stud. The stallions registered name, photo, website link, and email where the easier choices to include. Questions like ranch name and / or owners name, where a little more difficult so I decided to include them both. Breed / registration has been a little interesting as some mare owners may be familiar with APHA = Paint and ApHA = Appaloosa but some may not so the idea of including a bit more information than just the appreviation has gone well. Started with the idea to serperate the listing by state, and have received a few requests to add a new feature to of serperation by breed, so I am planning to include listings by breed later this year.

As I dislike having a user id and password for every site, I decided to set this site up with no user ids or password being required for users. Which made the decision to make the renewals yearly a very easy decision.

Then I found out that was the easy part. For the design of the site, I ended up asking Melissa and she came up with this excellent design and layout. She is also a fountain of web based information. If you have a chance, check out her site and ask her a question.

So if you are a mare owner, check out the site. If you are a stallion owner sign up your stallion. And don't forget to tell your friends.
